HOW WOULD ONE DESCRIBE MY ART?

I am all about color and expressionism. Throughout my life, I felt an intense call to express myself in every way possible. I was consistently told that I was too loud, too intense, unladylike, ask too many questions etc… But in art I have found that you can be as loud and as bright as you want to be. You can be YOU.

I feel a deep connection to Mother Earth & the different people living on her: their religions, languages and artistic expressions. I feel that these cultures live inside of me in some spiritual way. I attempt to express this LOVE I feel with flowing lines, shapes and colors.

I love to create and I create to show love.

I think of our lives as a love letter to the Universe

My artistic influences are:

My Artist mother Margie Louellen Self Shirley who taught me to create all the time.

My Artist friend Sherry Talley (link to her website listed below) who teaches me to think outside of the box and not to be afraid of color. She also teaches me that art is not limited to paper or canvases. Our world is the canvas. I’ve known her since I was 11 and we have been painting together for the past 40 years.

Other influences are Matisse, Klimt, Patricia Nix, Fritz Scholder and the rock posters/band album art of the 1960s and 1970s
